The Key to Brighter Skin for Spring

Springtime is in full swing, and we are all looking forward to coming out of our winter hideouts. The flowers are blossoming, the sun is shining, and we are ready to show off our nourished, glowing skin. If you’re still working to reduce hyperpigmentation, you’ve probably heard of the ingredient hydroquinone or are using a product which incorporates it. But this spring, for even-toned and brighter skin, it’s  time to refresh your routine with our Skin Authority Brightening Serum, clinically shown to work 2x faster than the leading spot corrector.

What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation occurs when patches of skin begin to appear darker. When your skin endures some sort of physical damage, increased melanin production can centralize and cause these discolorations.

This can show up in your skin as sunspots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, each appearing from different causes. Sunspots are brought on by sun exposure over time, most likely on your hands, face, and shoulders. Melasma is caused by changes in hormone levels and can show up anywhere on your body, though most often on your face and stomach. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation appears due to some sort of inflammation to the skin, most commonly acne.

Up to now, the primary ingredient to address hyperpigmentation is hydroquinone, which was developed to chemically prevent melanin activity. However, it wasn’t designed to address the additional conditions we now know also impact hyperpigmentation such as inflammation and protein deficiency.

Our Hyperpigmentation Treatment product, a powerful yet effective product that targets dark spots, was developed leveraging hydroquinone to fade the appearance of dark spots, discoloration, and age spots. However, the science and ingredient technology to treat hyperpigmentation has evolved. While hydroquinone was developed to chemically prevent melanin activity, it wasn’t designed to address the additional conditions we now know also impact hyperpigmentation such as inflammation and protein deficiency. We started working on a new formula which went beyond the benefits of hydroquinone.

In parallel, the FDA reviewed a series of chemical ingredients for long term efficacy and made the decision to no longer approve hydroquinone for over the counter use. Skin Authority will comply with this ruling and no longer produce the Hyperpigmentation Treatment. We are excited as this decision allows us to promote the amazing alternative to get you the clear and bright results you’re ready for this spring.

What we are loving instead: the Brightening Serum

Our Brightening Serum is everything you need to get your skin glowing this season (and let’s face it…every season). It’s a lightweight serum that uses a cocktail of naturally derived spot suppressor Alpha Arbutin derived from the bearberry plant, oligopeptides, and AHA exfoliators that work to fade the appearance of spots, discoloration, hyperpigmentation, and damage in your skin from the sun, hormones, and pollution. But unlike Hyperpigmentation Treatment, Brightening Serum doesn’t stop at dark spots. It promotes collagen production for firming and calms inflammation so your skin tone appears more even, it’ll leave your skin looking more hydrated and smooth.

How To Use the Brightening Serum

Adding this serum to your skin care routine is simple! After cleansing and drying your skin, use your fingertips to apply a thin layer over treatment areas. Make sure you avoid your delicate eye area! Then, proceed with your moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup.

Now that the days are getting longer and the weather warmer, it’s time to unveil bright skin so you feel as beautiful and confident as you deserve to, and our Brightening Serum is the perfect addition to your springtime skin care routine.
