Based on recent positive studies, dermatologists are recommending topical probiotics as a component of an effective skin care strategy to combat four skin conditions: acne, rosacea, eczema and aging skin. According to an American Academy of Dermatology (published 01-30-14), "skin prone to acne or rosacea has shown improvement with daily probiotic use, giving dermatologists reason to consider supplementing traditional acne therapy with a dose of this beneficial bacteria." According to the article, there are different ways that topical probiotics can benefit the skin: Protective Shield In patients with acne and rosacea, living microorganisms on the skin are recognized as foreign by the body’s immune system. The immune system springs into action to counter this potential threat resulting in the inflammation, redness, or bumps common in these skin conditions. Probiotics applied topically sit on the skin’s surface and prevent the skin cells from seeing the bad bacteria and parasites that can cause this immune system response. This is known as “bacterial ...
Labor Day is the last hoorah of summer. Before you head out to the beaches, parks, swimming pools one last time this summer, read about how to prevent sun damage, and how to treat it if you do. I can’t emphasize this enough: protect the skin on a daily basis using a full-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. If you are active throughout the day, remember to reapply your sunscreen. The most effective sunscreen is useless unless you reapply after swimming, sweating and after an extended period of time. Just because you apply a higher SPF rated sunscreen doesn't mean you don't have to reapply as often. Powerful antioxidants like vitamin C help protect the skin against UV rays, too. The right Vitamin C can multiply the effectiveness of your sunscreen, so I urge you to apply a C serum daily underneath your sunscreen moisturizer. You should resurface the skin on a consistent ...
Practiced for centuries, this new twist on a proven technique will produce an absolutely clean canvas ready for product and makeup. DOUBLE CLEANSING is the hot new trend with professional makeup artists, but the technique is nothing new. European and Japanese women have incorporated double cleansing into their routines for a very long time. Research has shown that double cleansing your skin makes application of anti-aging products more effective. Standing the test of time, this technique can make a world of difference if correctly used. THE FIRST CLEANSE. Smooth the Nurtrient 9X Oil onto dry skin, circling it over face and eyes for about a minute. If you are not removing make-up, leave on and move to the second cleanse. If you are removing make-up, use a warm cloth to lift makeup, dissolve impurities, and neutralize leftover products from the face and out of pores. Oil fights oil and is good for combating ...

Out with the old, in with the new - it’s time for spring! After a particularly rough winter, I’m sure you are more than anxious to put on shorts, sandals, and shades (but don’t forget your sunscreen!). Here are my seven tips to get your skin in shape for warmer weather without spending a bundle:
1. Let New Skin In: Get rid of the dead, dehydrated skin that’s accumulated over the winter by using a light exfoliator or resurfacing agent. I suggest nightly at-home treatments, such as using a cream-based Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate) or gel-based Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products. The most effective home resurfacing treatments contain 10-15 percent AHA.
2. Simplify your Skin Care Stash: While you are ridding yourself of dead skin, clean out your skin care cabinet too. Save time and money by simplifying to no more than three to four steps in the morning and ...
As someone interested in learning more about restorative benefits of Vitamin C, we thought it was important to share key tips that will help you get the most out of incorporating it in your daily skin care routine.
Use a Vitamin C with at least 10% ascorbic or l-ascorbic acid. Vitamin C stimulates fibroblast production (a co-factor in collagen formation) for tighter, firmer skin, and is an antioxidant that helps reduce free radical scavengers and oxidative damage. Note that Skin Authority Super-C Serum doubles the recommended dosage to 20%, giving your skin even more power to make collagen and fight free radical damage.
Choose a Vitamin C formula paired with a secondary antioxidant. Alone, Vitamin C's first action is to eliminate free radicals. In most situations, Vitamin C can become exhausted just performing this function, so less vitamin C is available to stimulate collagen production. When a antioxidant is added to the ...
Bamboo is one of my favorite ingredients, and I've had several customers inquire about bamboo and the role it plays in our products:
Why is bamboo a beneficial ingredient in skincare?
Bamboo Extract boasts a combination of beneficial actives. It is anti-irritant, making it a great choice for sensitive skin products. Bamboo is an antioxidant, so it’s also a smart choice for protective products. It’s nutrient-rich, which means it boosts deficient skin and hair. And, bamboo is a key element in collagen, which is responsible for the underlying structure of skin and helps to improve its overall appearance.
How does it help the health of skin?
Bamboo is one of the highest sources of natural silica. Silica is an important element in collagen, where it plays a key role in improving skin elasticity and strength. The use of topical products containing Bamboo Extract is an effective way to help restore the appearance and moisture retention ...
Are you looking for shortcuts and simple solutions for everything from shopping, to exercise, to your skin-care routine? A time- and money-saving gift for you: when it comes to skin care, less is more. That advice, plus four more tips to help avoid common skin-care mistakes you may not even realize you are making:
Not cleansing before bed. With work and hectic home life, there are likely to be many nights where you’d much rather fall into bed than take a few minutes to cleanse your skin. Sweat, oil, and dirt sit on your skin all day, so even if you don’t wear make-up, you still need to cleanse. My favorite is Daily Cleanser, a clear gel formula that gently cleanses and balances skin, leaving it feeling clean and smooth. An evening skin-care routine also is your time to address any concerns and/or maintain your current skin health. Before going to bed, I recommend ...
On my Beauty Bootcamp segment on Fox5 San Diego, I shared the hot trends in beauty & fitness for 2016:
Uber-ization of Beauty and Spa Services.

Serious Wellness for Children and Families
Childhood obesity is out of control in the United States and is tied to the extreme amount of stress and pressure children are experiencing. The trend is wellness-focused family vacations, mindfulness sessions in school, family yoga and healthy eating classes.
The same ingredients in organic, clean food are translating to skincare and cosmetics. In the near future, you will see kale, quinoa and tumeric in beauty ingredients.
Workout enthusiasts are stepping up their game by increasing their levels of exercise. The ...
Ahhh... the Season of Love is upon us! I feel like playing cupid and sharing some ideas on creating the right mood for Valentine’s. There's no question that the right spa experiences can be very romantic - the serene atmosphere, the aromas, the candles, the healing touch. Whether you are going for the day to unwind, or for a week to reconnect, spas provide a very sensory experience. So why not create a spa environment at home? Whether you indulge yourself or share it with a partner, you can achieve a wonderful result.
I think it all starts with healthy eating. If you are eating properly, you will feel better about yourself. The inhibitions will come down and your mood will be elevated.
Now that we're eating healthy, let's have some fun and create a spa experience at home. Start by outfitting your bedroom and bathroom with some luxurious linens and towels. ...
